Benign Mole Reduction Treatment in Hawarden (Benign Nevus)

Moles, also known as nevi or naevi, are common benign (non-cancerous) skin growths made up of pigment-producing cells. They can appear anywhere on the body and vary in size, shape, colour, and texture. Most moles are harmless, symmetrical, and have smooth, well-defined edges, but many people choose to have them removed for cosmetic reasons or if they become raised, irritated, or catch on clothing.

At JLClinical in Hawarden, I offer safe and professional benign mole reduction/removal using advanced electrolysis, following strict suitability criteria and appropriate medical guidance.

Types of Benign Moles (Nevi)

There are several different types of benign moles, including:

Dermal Nevi (Dermal Moles)

  • Often raised and pale in colour
  • May be skin-coloured or slightly pigmented
  • Sometimes contain hair
  • Common on the face, particularly around the nose

Junctional Melanocytic Nevi

  • Flat, round moles
  • Usually light to dark brown in colour
  • Smooth and even in appearance

Compound Nevi (Common Moles)

  • Slightly raised above the skin
  • Light brown in colour
  • May be hairy or textured

Atypical / Dysplastic Nevi

  • Irregular-looking moles with varied appearance
  • Require careful assessment before treatment

Blue Nevi

  • Dark blue or blue-black pigmentation
  • May be present from birth or develop over time

Important Medical Advice for Mole Assessment

It is essential to seek medical advice if a mole:

  • Changes in shape, size, or colour
  • Becomes itchy, painful, or bleeds
  • Develops irregular borders or pigmentation changes

At JLClinical, I only treat moles that are confirmed as benign (non-cancerous).

Mole Treatment Criteria

To be suitable for treatment, the mole must:

  • Be approximately the size of a blunt pencil tip or smaller
  • Be at least 2 years old (not newly developed)
  • Be round, regular, and symmetrical in shape
  • Show no bleeding, itching, or flaking
  • Show no inflammation or rapid change in size
  • Have no black areas, irregular pigmentation, or red edges

A GP or Dermatologist confirmation letter is required before mole removal treatment can proceed. This can also be done via my map-my-mole service.

Advanced Electrolysis for Mole Removal/Reduction

Advanced electrolysis is a precise and effective method used to reduce and remove suitable benign moles. The treatment works by gently dehydrating the mole tissue using controlled energy, gradually reducing its size and appearance.

Depending on the height and depth of the mole, results may be achieved over 1 to 3 treatment sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart. Many smaller moles respond extremely well, with multiple lesions often treated in a single appointment.

What to Expect During Treatment

  • Local anaesthetic may be applied or injected (if suitable) for comfort
  • The mole is carefully treated using a fine sterile probe
  • The mole immediately begins to flatten and reduce in size
  • A small scab will form and should heal naturally
  • Most clients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure

Aftercare & Healing Process

Following mole removal treatment, a small superficial wound is created which heals naturally over time.

Normal healing includes:

  • Mild redness around the treated area
  • Formation of a small scab
  • Gradual healing over several days to weeks
  • Temporary pink skin underneath the scab

This new skin is part of the natural healing process and is not scar tissue. The skin will gradually re-pigment to match your natural skin tone over 4–6 weeks.

As with any minor skin procedure, there is a small risk of scarring, particularly if the area becomes infected or the scab is picked.

Important Aftercare Advice

To support optimal healing and reduce pigmentation changes:

  • Apply SPF 50 sun protection daily
  • Avoid sunbeds completely during healing
  • Do not pick or disturb scabs
  • Follow all personalised aftercare instructions provided
