Xanthelasma (cholesterol spot) removal in Flintshire

Xanthelasma (cholesterol spot) removal in Flintshire

Xanthelasma (cholesterol spot) removal in Flintshire

Xanthelasma are soft, yellowish cholesterol deposits that commonly develop around the eyelids and inner corners of the eyes. Often referred to as cholesterol spots, these benign skin lesions are harmless but can become more noticeable over time and affect confidence due to their prominent facial location.

At JL Clinical, I offer safe and effective treatment for xanthelasma using advanced electrolysis. Based in Hawarden, Flintshire, I welcome clients from Chester, North Wales and the surrounding areas seeking professional treatment for unwanted cholesterol deposits around the eyes.

What causes xanthelasma?

Before and after treatment for yellow cholesterol deposits on eyelids

Xanthelasma occurs when cholesterol and other fats become deposited beneath the skin, forming soft yellow plaques around the eyelids. While xanthelasma can be associated with raised cholesterol levels, many people who develop these lesions have normal cholesterol levels and are otherwise healthy.

The condition becomes more common with age and may also be influenced by genetics, diabetes, liver disease and other factors affecting fat metabolism. If xanthelasma is suspected, a cholesterol check with your GP may be recommended before treatment.

What results can I expect?

Before and after xanthelasma removal treatment in Hawarden, Flintshire

Treatment can significantly improve the appearance of xanthelasma and help restore a smoother, clearer appearance around the eyes. Following treatment, mild redness, swelling or small scabs may develop as part of the normal healing process. As the skin heals, the treated deposits gradually reduce and fade. Larger or more extensive lesions may require more than one treatment session to achieve the best cosmetic outcome.

Frequently asked questions

Xanthelasma treatment results showing improvement around the eyes

What are cholesterol spots around the eyes?

Xanthelasma are yellowish cholesterol deposits that develop beneath the skin, most commonly around the eyelids. They are harmless but are often removed for cosmetic reasons.

Are xanthelasma dangerous?

Xanthelasma themselves are not dangerous. However, they can sometimes be associated with raised cholesterol levels or other metabolic conditions, so a medical assessment may occasionally be recommended.

Do I need to have my cholesterol checked?

If you have not previously been diagnosed with xanthelasma or had your cholesterol levels checked, it may be advisable to discuss this with your GP.

Does xanthelasma removal hurt?

Most clients experience only mild discomfort during treatment. The procedure is generally well tolerated and treatment is performed with precision to minimise damage to surrounding skin.

Can xanthelasma come back after treatment?

Successfully treated lesions can be permanently removed; however, some people may develop new cholesterol deposits in the future, particularly if underlying risk factors remain present.

Will treatment leave a scar?

Most clients heal very well following treatment, particularly when aftercare advice is followed carefully. As with any skin procedure, there is a small risk of scarring.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments required depends on the size, depth and extent of the xanthelasma. Smaller lesions may respond well to a single treatment, while larger areas may require multiple sessions.

Do I need a consultation before treatment?

Yes. Because xanthelasma can sometimes be associated with cholesterol levels and because treatment around the eyes requires careful assessment, an initial consultation is recommended before treatment.

Booking Your xanthelasma consultation

Due to the location of xanthelasma around the eyes and the potential association with cholesterol levels, an initial consultation is recommended before treatment. During your consultation, I will assess the size and extent of the lesions, discuss treatment options, answer any questions you may have, and advise on the number of treatments likely to be required. If you are unsure whether your skin concern is xanthelasma, you are welcome to get in touch or send a photograph for advice before booking.
