Seborrhoeic keratoses are common, harmless skin growths that often appear as brown, black or tan patches with a waxy, scaly or raised appearance. They commonly develop on the face, neck, chest and back and tend to become more common with age.
Although benign, many people choose to have seborrhoeic keratoses removed for cosmetic reasons or because they become irritated by clothing, jewellery or daily friction. At JL Clinical, I offer safe and effective seborrhoeic keratosis removal using advanced electrolysis and cryotherapy treatments. Based in Hawarden, Flintshire, I welcome clients from Chester, North Wales and the surrounding areas seeking professional removal of unwanted skin growths.
The exact cause of seborrhoeic keratoses is not fully understood, but they are strongly associated with ageing and genetic factors. They often develop gradually over many years and may appear as single lesions or in clusters. While completely harmless and non-cancerous, they do not usually disappear without treatment and may become thicker or more noticeable over time.

Seborrhoeic keratosis removal can significantly improve the appearance and comfort of the treated area. Depending on the treatment plan, the healing process can be different. After cryotherapy mild redness, temporary darkening or a small scab may occur as part of the normal healing process. As the skin heals, the treated lesion gradually disappears, revealing smoother and clearer skin beneath. After advanced electrolysis, the seborrhoeic keratosis is completely removed instantly, but there will be natural scabbing over the site, which will then drop off with clear skin underneath. Larger or thicker lesions may occasionally require more than one treatment session to achieve the best cosmetic outcome.
Seborrhoeic keratoses are benign skin growths and are not cancerous. However, any lesion that changes in appearance, colour, shape or size should be assessed before treatment.
Most clients experience only mild discomfort during treatment. The level of sensation varies depending on the size and location of the lesion being treated. Where necessary local anaesthetic is available for use.
Successfully treated lesions are unlikely to return. However, some people may develop new seborrhoeic keratoses elsewhere on the body over time.
Most treated areas heal very well with little or no visible scarring, deeper thicker lesions can sometimes leave a slight redness to the skin. Following aftercare advice helps support optimal healing and minimise the risk of scarring.
Many seborrhoeic keratoses can be treated successfully in a single session, although larger, thicker or multiple lesions may require additional treatments.
It is essential that your skin condition has been assessed by your GP or dermatologist, prior to treatment. A consultation is required to assess the most appropriate treatment option. If you are unsure whether your skin lesion is suitable for treatment, you are welcome to get in touch or send a photograph for advice.
If you are considering seborrhoeic keratosis removal, I recommend booking an initial consultation so I can assess the lesion and discuss the most suitable treatment approach for your individual needs. This allows us to ensure the lesion is appropriate for treatment and gives you the opportunity to ask any questions before proceeding. If you would like advice before booking, you are welcome to send a photograph for assessment.
